Ritchie Hears Wartime Memories From Decorated Wwii Vet

State Senator Patty Ritchie recently sat down with Jefferson County WWII veteran Andy Cambron, to take a look at his many accolades and hear about the experiences he had as a member of the US Army. 

Mr. Cambron joined the Army in 1942.  In 1943, he was stationed at the former Pine Camp with the fifth armored division, and served in the European theater during WWII.  Mr. Cambron was awarded five battle stars and a bronze star for his service to his country.

Mr. Cambron is a participant in Senator Ritchie’s effort to capture the wartime memories of veterans from Central and Northern New York.  Through the program, veterans were interviewed about their military experiences in Senator Ritchie’s St. Lawrence County, Jefferson County and Oswego County offices.  The interviews were submitted to the New York State Veteran Oral History Program, based at the New York State Military Museum and Veterans Research Center, located in Saratoga Springs. 

The New York State Veteran Oral History Program was created in 2000 to capture the stories of New York’s WWII veterans, but it has been expanded to include veterans of military service both during war and peacetime.
