State Senator Patty Ritchie recently presented Alexandria Central student Dylan O’Connor with a special Senate Resolution, honoring him for winning the New York State Regional Spelling Bee.
Dylan beat out students from 18 different school districts throughout Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence Counties to take the top prize.
After the regional competition, Dylan went on to compete at the Scripps National Spelling Bee, held in Maryland last May. There, he faced students from all 50 states as well as international spellers from as far away as New Zealand and South Korea.
After the presentation, Senator Ritchie joined Dylan, along with his family and friends, for lunch in the school cafeteria.
