Honors Decorated Leader with Official Resolution
Senator Patty Ritchie announced State Senate passage of a unanimous Resolution welcoming Major General Mark A. Milley, the newest commander of Fort Drum and the 10th Mountain Division.
“Major General Milley is no stranger to Fort Drum or the US Army’s most deployed military unit. He led the 10th Mountain Division's 2nd Brigade Combat Team to Afghanistan in 2003,
and to Iraq in 2004,” Senator Ritchie said. “Since his arrival in Jefferson County, he has impressed me as someone who cares very much about the men and women he commands and who is dedicated to working with New York State to keep Fort Drum as one of the top assets in our national defense.”
Major General Milley succeeded Lt. Gen. James L. Terry, who commanded the 10th Mountain Division since 2009, and was recently named head of V Corps and the Seventh Army in Europe.
Major General Milley served as Deputy Director for Operations for the Joint Staff in Washington, DC before his assignment to Northern New York.
Major General Mark A. Milley graduated in 1980 from Princeton University with a bachelor's degree in political science. He earned master's degrees from Columbia University's international relations program, and from the United States Naval War College's national security and strategic studies curriculum.
