“ABRAZO DOMINICANO (A DOMINICAN EMBRACE) IN NEW YORK”
You should know, that every year, I celebrate four (4) different banquets; “The Abrazo Boricua,” for the Puerto Rican community “The Abrazo Dominicano,” for the Dominican community, “The Abrazo Garifuna” for the Garifuna community in NY and “The African-American Abrazo” for the African-American community; in appreciation, acknowledgement and recognition of the contributions that these communities have made to the great City and State of New York through economic, cultural, intellectual, political, civic and humanitarian acts.
This year, in honor of the Bronx Dominican Day Parade, which will take place on Sunday, July 29th on the Grand Concourse, we will be celebrating the “Abrazo Dominicano Banquet” honoring distinguished members of the Dominican community.
Alipio “Coco” Cabrera, Ramon Anibal Ramos, Channel 47 and Dr. Juan Gilberto Serulle, Mayor of the City of Santiago in the Dominican Republic, are the distinguished honorees at this year’s “Abrazo Dominicano in New York Banquet” which will take place, tomorrow Friday, July 27th at 7:00 PM at Maestro’s Caterers located at 1703 Bronxdale Avenue in the borough of the Bronx.
The first “Abrazo Boricua” took place in 1988 to commemorate the Puerto Rican community for their outstanding commitment in this great state.
Like every year, more than 600 people, including; Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., State Senators Adriano Espaillat & Jose Peralta, Assembly members Guillermo Linares, Nelson Castro, Eric Stevenson, Marcos Crespo and Vanessa Gibson will be present together with Mr. Felipe Febles and Ms. Rosa Ayala, Presidents of the Dominican Day Parade of the Bronx, to present the honorees with proclamations and citations.
“For my family, my son Ruben Jr. and myself, it is a great honor and privilege to be able to host the “Abrazo Dominicano” banquet where leaders of the Dominican community will join together as one in a peaceful night of celebration of Dominican culture and heritage.” This event which is conducted in Spanish will include dancing to Merengue, Salsa and Bachata!
