New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman could be a national hero and a Democratic Presidential contender for 2016.

You should know, dear reader, that Eric Schneiderman has been appointed by President Barack Obama to lead the nation's Justice Department Financial Fraud Enforcement Task Force.

You should also know that I served in the New York State Senate with the now- Attorney General and that my relationship with him has not always been smooth because of our very different philosophies dating back to our days in the Senate. To say the least, we have been at odds.

Nevertheless, I would like to publicly express my congratulations to New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman on his recent appointment by President Barack Obama to lead the nation’s mortgage crisis agency.

We all know that banks and mortgage lenders have made a mess of many people’s lives, causing families to lose their homes through foreclosure. We also know that as a result of the bundling and re-sale of mortgages by many financial institutions, our nation’s economy is suffering tremendously.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is the only public defender who has remained committed to getting to the bottom of the mortgage crisis and demanding accountability. New Yorkers should all be proud of his ability to stand strong and refuse to give in to a proposed 50-state settlement that would restrict government investigations of mortgage and investment practices.

We all know that after November, 2012, the next presidential election will be in 2016. Within the next four years, Attorney General Eric Schneiderman will have the ability and the time to travel to all 50 states to subpoena documents and to bring to trial those involved with mortgage fraud. Before 2016, Attorney General Eric Schneiderman can really make a name for himself.

Using all the resources, the power of subpoena and the privilege that the President has given to him, Eric Schneiderman will have the opportunity to make a name for himself, be a national hero, and become a powerful Democratic Presidential contender for the 2016 election.

Go for it Eric!

I am Senator Rev. Rubén Díaz, and this is what you should know.
