Against All Odds

You should know that New York State Senate Democratic Majority Leader John Sampson and New York State Democratic Senate Campaign Committee Leader Senator Mike Gianaris have pulled off one of the biggest victories in New York State election history, even when all odds, predictions, criticisms, news reports, editorial pages, and most importantly, Governor Andrew Cuomo – the leader of the State Democratic Party – were against them.

As you know, for the last two years, Senator John Sampson has been the subject of negative reports. He has been ridiculed by editorial pages, and even members of his own conference – behind closed doors and behind his back – were complaining about his leadership, and were organizing to take him out. Through all that time, we never once heard Senator Sampson complaining, whining, or crying about it. He took all criticisms on the chin like a real gentleman, focusing on the prize of taking back the Senate.

So to all those who were busy making plans and measuring the curtains for Room 315 in the Capital and for that lush office on the 9th Floor in the LOB (Legislative Office Building), I believe you will have to work a lot harder and for a much longer time.

You should also know that Governor Cuomo, who endorsed Republican Senator Steve Saland against a Democratic candidate, has gotten the biggest loss of them all with an embarrassing defeat.

So for now, ladies and gentlemen, even though we don’t know what the Independent Democratic Conference and newly-elected Simcha Felder will do, we have to agree that Senators John Sampson and Mike Gianaris are the big heroes of the day,

Congratulation to both of them!

This is State Senator Reverend Rubén Díaz and this is what you should know.
