**PRESS RELEASE**
On a day celebrating a new year, four bombings occurred in Southeast Queens causing extensive property damage to one home, but fortunately no lives were lost. The arson attacks were committed by using Molotov cocktails on the Imam Al-Khoei Islamic Center, a bodega on Hillside Avenue and two homes; all of which took place within miles of each other in Jamaica, Queens.
"In the multi-cultured city we live freedom of religion is of utmost importance, and part of why our country was founded said Senator Shirley L. Huntley (D-Jamaica). The senseless acts of violence that permeated through Southeast Queens from four fire bombings will not be tolerated. Our community will stand strong together and speak out against these possible hate crimes and bring the person(s) responsible for such a heinous act to justice.”
"I want to thank the firefighters who responded to each incident for their tireless effort and dedication to ensure no one was severely hurt, said Senator Huntley. These hate crimes and acts of arson will not go unpunished and I will work with 103rd precinct, various elected officials, local leaders, and residents to make sure this does not happen again.”
Any information residents may know, or if they witnessed any of these incidents please call 1-800-577-TIPS, or visit nyc.gov and click ‘Police’ in the search tab. Every phone call is confidential and the callers remain anonymous.
