Senator Saland to Host Red Cross Disaster Preparedness Program and Blood Drive on September 8th

Senator Steve Saland (R, I, C – Poughkeepsie) is hosting a free American Red Cross Disaster Preparedness Program and Blood Drive on Saturday, September 8, 2012. The event will take place from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at The Henry A. Wallace Center at the FDR Presidential Library and Home in Hyde Park.

The program, entitled “Be Red Cross Ready”, will be offered at 10:00 AM and again at 12:30 PM, in Rooms B & C, at The Henry A. Wallace Center. Featured speakers include Executive Director Darryl Lafferty and Krista Boni of the American Red Cross Mid-Hudson Valley Chapter, and Julie Parlato of the Albany Chapter who will be presenting on citizen CPR and offering guidance for disaster preparedness.

“I cannot say enough about the value of emergency preparedness, especially when it can mean saving a life,” said Senator Saland. “It is my hope that community members will join me in supporting our local Red Cross chapter on September 8th to ensure that we are well equipped to protect those around us in the event of an emergency.”

Attendees will have the opportunity to tour a Dutchess County Emergency Response Vehicle and volunteers will be on hand to demonstrate the Scrubby Bear hygiene program to children.

The American Red Cross Blood Drive will take place from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM in Room A, of the Center. Blood supplies are critically low and donations are appreciated and needed at this time.
