Driver’s License Designation for Veterans Signed Into Law
William J. Larkin Jr.
October 18, 2012
Senator Bill Larkin (R-C-I, Cornwall-on-Hudson) today announced that legislation (S6799) was signed into law that allows the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to place a distinguishing mark on a driver’s license, or non-driver ID, to indicate its holder is a veteran.
This law, which goes into effect next October, will make it easier for veterans to receive discounts and other special benefits where proof of military service is required.
“Currently, many veterans carry around their DD-214 forms in order to prove that they are, in fact, veterans,” said Senator Larkin. “Thanks to this new law, veterans can simply get this designation put on their license, and their military paperwork can stay at home where it belongs.”
“I hope this relatively small change will help our nation’s heroes in a big way,” Larkin added.
