Larkin and State Senate Honor the Borinqueneers

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) and the New York State Senate today passed a Legislative Resolution honoring the Borinqueneers, the only all Puerto Rican unit in United States Military history.

The 65th Infantry Regiment, more commonly known as the “Borinqueneers,” was an all Puerto Rican unit that served in the United States Armed Forces during WWI, WWII and the Korean War.  The Borinqueneers served with distinction and earned numerous awards and decorations including: two Presidential Unit Citations, a Meritorious Unit Commendation, and two Republic of Korea Unit Citations. 

“It was an honor for me to bring a resolution honoring the Borinqueneers before the Senate,” said Senator Larkin.  “These brave men deserve to be acknowledged and remembered for their  service and their sacrifices to our great nation.”

The United States Postal Service’s Citizens’ Stamp Advisory Committee is currently considering issuing a commemorative stamp in honor of the Borinqueneers.  Senator Larkin, who sent a letter to the Postal Service in support of a Borinqueneers Stamp added, “I urge the Citizens’ Stamp Advisory Committee to quickly issue this stamp in honor of these American heroes.”
