Sister Yliana Hernandez Selected as 2012 "Woman of Distinction"
Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) today honored Sister Yliana Hernandez of Newburgh at a special ceremony held in Albany as one of the New York State Senate's 2012 "Women of Distinction."
Sister Yliana was honored for her outstanding contributions to education and for her commitment to helping others in her local community. Sister Yliana is currently the principal at the Nora Cronin Presentation Academy, a private middle-school in Newburgh, which instructs 60 girls with a combination of full-time and volunteer teachers.
"I can think of no one more deserving of this honor than Sister Yliana," said Senator Larkin. "She has given tirelessly of her time to the education of Newburgh's youth and she was the driving force behind the renovations of the Nora Cronin Presentation Academy's new home in the heart of Newburgh. Sister Yliana's dedication to her community is making Newburgh a better place to live for her students, their families and the surrounding residents. I applaud her actions and thank her for all her efforts on behalf the Newburgh community," said Larkin.
The "Women of Distinction" program was created by the Senate to honor outstanding women whose contributions have enriched the quality of life in their communities. The program is in its 15th year.
