“President Obama’s proposal to raise the minimum wage and tie future increases to inflation is a major boost to advocates working to get this done in New York. For low-income families in Upper Manhattan and throughout the state struggling to pay rent and provide for their children, raising the minimum wage would offer vital assistance.
While I commend the President for calling attention to the millions of Americans living below the poverty line, it is clear that Congressional Republicans are committed to blocking his progressive agenda. I am proud to sponsor legislation closely mirroring the President’s proposal, and I am committed to raising New York’s minimum wage this year.”
