Albany, NY - Democratic Conference Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins secured a $250,000 grant for the Village of Tarrytown this week to support a parking lot project near the Tarrytown train station.
The grant will reimburse the village for 167 parking spaces built in 2011 on the west side of the tracks near the station.
The grant came from unused transportation funds, known as multi modal funds, awarded to the Village of Tarrytown in 1999 for a separate project.
Recognizing the need for parking near the train station, Tarrytown turned to Senator Stewart-Cousins to obtain authorization to use the multi modal funds for the parking lot project, and Leader Stewart-Cousins successfully pushed the Village’s request through the Senate finance committee. Without the transfer, the Village would have lost the unused funds.
“The Tarrytown train station desperately needed these parking spaces and this funding will reimburse the village for that critical project. The new parking lot provides a convenient service to Metro North commuters and users of nearby parks while generating revenue for the Village. I was more than happy to help Tarrytown obtain this grant so more parking is available at the train station,” commented Democratic Conference Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins.
“Senator Stewart-Cousins provided us with the type of leadership our residents have come to expect from her. She recognized that this was a project that benefited not only Tarrytown, but the many other residents of the region who both utilize Metro-North and visit our wonderful waterfront parks,” said Tarrytown Mayor Drew Fixell.
“With the assistance of Senator Stewart-Cousins, we were able to move grant moneys to an extremely important project to the village. On behalf of Tarrytown, I would like to thank the Senator for her efforts to get this accomplished,” said Village Administrator Michael Blau.
