Albany, NY - Dr. Elliott Palais of Yonkers was inducted into the New York State Senate Hall of Fame today at a ceremony in Albany. Dr. Palais was nominated by Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins. He is a veteran of the United State Army and served during the Korean War. He is currently the Secretary for the Yonkers Central Committee of Veterans Organizations.
The New York State Senate Veteran’s Hall of Fame is an annual award bestowed upon one veteran from each Senator’s district. The award recognizes outstanding veterans from the Empire State who have distinguished themselves both in military and civilian life.
“Dr. Palais embodies what the Veterans Hall of Fame is about. He is a veteran who has devoted much of his life to serving others, both within and outside of the military. In addition to his service in the US Army, Elliott has contributed his time and energy to making the Yonkers community a better place for veterans and all residents. He is a true community leader and I am proud to pay this special tribute to him today,” said Democratic Conference Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins (D/I/WF – 35th District).
Elliott Palais was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1956 as a Corporal. Outside of his military service, Dr. Palais has volunteered for numerous veteran organizations in the City of Yonkers and the County of Westchester. Examples include his service as Chairman of the Yonkers Central Committee of Veteran’s Organizations and as the Commander of the Westchester County VFW. He also served as Commander of the Jewish War Veterans and is the founder of Lincoln Park Taxpayers, a local neighborhood group in Yonkers that informs residents of City issues.
Mr. Palais was active in his local parent teacher associations and served as a Yonkers City Councilman. He is currently an Adjunct Professor at Fordham University. He has been married to his wife Loraine for 60 years. They have four children, eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
