Earth Day and Arbor Day -- Plant a Tree!
Andrew J Lanza
April 17, 2013
Superstorm Sandy ravaged trees and greenery around our homes and neighborhoods, and we’re just beginning to see the long term damage some trees and shrubs suffered.
Thousands upon thousands of trees were lost on Staten Island, but we now have a chance to restore what was lost. Staten Island’s trees and shrubs help reduce storm water runoff, prevent soil erosion, provide habitat and shade, beautify the landscape and protect our bays and harbors.
This year, April 22 is Earth Day and April 26 is Arbor Day -- the perfect time to plant a tree to replace one that was lost.
Please participate in Earth Day and Arbor Day week activities by planting a tree or other greenery. While you're at it take a photo and send it to me for inclusion on my Senate website and Facebook page. Photos can be sent to me at nprobst@nysenate.gov Be sure to include the name and hometown of those pictured. Youngsters should be sure to get a parent or guardian’s permission before submitting photos that will be published in the Internet.
Sincerely,
