NYC homeowners now have until March 15 to file a form claiming damage from Hurricane Sandy has reduced their property values. The NYC Department of Finance has extended the deadline to submit the "Property Damage Reporting Application" for property owners who suffered severe damage to their property by Hurricane Sandy. Property owners must submit applications to the Department of Finance by March 15th if they want the Finance Department to consider it in time for the property assessment used to determine property taxes for the 2013-2014 tax year. Property owners should submit the survey if: 1) their buildings are leaning, have collapsed, or are off the foundation; 2) the walls have buckled; or 3) the basement, roof, boiler, elevator, transformer, or air conditioning have been destroyed. Applications can be picked up at my office, found at www.nyc.gov/html/hra/downloads/pdf/hradocs/PropertyDamageReportApp.pdf or submitted online at https://dofpropertydamage.cityofnewyork.us/
