Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced that, in response to his request, the New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) will be making a new traffic safety improvement at the intersection of Sunrise Highway and Hewlett Avenue in Merrick.
Senator Fuschillo urged the DOT to explore new safety improvements at the intersection on behalf of constituents who expressed concerns that the intersection, which is often extremely busy and congested, was dangerous for pedestrians and motorists.
After conducting an investigation of accident analysis and field observations of the area, the DOT determined that the installation of a southbound left-hand turn arrow was appropriate for safety reasons.
Installation of the new left-hand turn signal is scheduled to begin on July 25th, according to the DOT.
