Senator Fuschillo Announces State Funding for Literacy Initiative at Copiague Library

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced that he has secured state funding for the Copiague Library to undertake its new Copiague Literacy initiative.

     The Library will use the funding to facilitate literacy programs that will bring one-on-one tutoring and small group instruction to its patrons. The Library will also be developing its own in-house literacy program that will expand its outreach services within the community. Additionally, the library will be increasing its adult learning, foreign language, and ESL collections for patrons of all ages.

     “Reading is a critically important skill that benefits individuals throughout their lives. Through its new Copiague Literacy initiative, the Copiague Library will be helping residents develop their reading skills and give them an important tool for success. I am pleased to have secured state funding for this important initiative,” said Senator Fuschillo.

     “Public libraries are centers of life-long learning. At the core of the libraries mission is the promotion of reading and the expansion of literacy within the community for English and non-English speakers alike. The Copiague Public Library looks forward to being able to further enhance our services in this area and thanks Senator Fuschillo for helping us achieve our goals,” said Copiague Library Director Ken Miller.
