Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) and Assemblyman David McDonough (R-North Merrick) recently visited the Merrick Library to view new educational technology which is being used in the Library’s Children’s Room. The Library purchased the technology using state funding secured by Senator Fuschillo.

The funding allowed the library to purchase iPads and a Crayon Kiosk for the Library’s Children’s Room. Children use the iPads, which are situated in the Crayon Kiosk to play preloaded educational apps which teach them about subjects such as math, science, reading, writing, and problem solving.

“This type of interactive technology engages children and makes learning more exciting and fun. I am pleased that the Merrick Library is able to provide this service to the community,” said Senator Fuschillo.

“Senator Fuschillo has provided assistance with enabling Merrick Library to provide state of the art technology to its patrons of all ages. In addition to his assistance with the Walter Mintz Digital Media Center for adults, the funding for the Crayon Kiosk, iPads and chairs allows us to offer this type of forward looking technology to our youngest patrons. The crayon kiosk is constantly in use by the children, providing fun and learning at the same time,” said Ellen Firer, Director of the Merrick Library.
