Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently congratulated Amityville resident John Siemer for being selected to receive a Cadet Appointment Scholarship from SUNY Maritime College. Senator Fuschillo nominated John to receive the award, which grants recipients a four year, full tuition scholarship to SUNY Maritime College.
John recently graduated magna cum laude from St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School and plans to major in Mechanical Engineering at SUNY Maritime College. He participated in a number of different extracurricular activities, including volleyball, varsity swimming, the surfing club, and the table tennis club. John was also involved in a number of different local community service programs.
"John is a well rounded young man who has excelled academically, was extremely involved in his school, and is eager to serve his community. It is my pleasure to congratulate him on this appointment and wish him all the best for continued success at SUNY Maritime College,” said Senator Fuschillo.
The Cadet Appointment Scholarship was established by the New York State Legislature to help attract qualified individuals interested in the Maritime Regiment of Cadets and the applicable license programs of Maritime College. Scholarships are given to students who have demonstrated academic excellence, possess strong leadership skills, and participate in extracurricular activities and get involved with their school and community.
