Senator Fuschillo Encourages Domestic Violence Victims to Register for Life-Saving Alerts

SAVIN System Notifies Victims When Orders of Protection are Served

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today encouraged individuals who are victims of domestic violence to register to receive alerts for when Family Court orders of protection are served through the Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification Network (SAVIN) system.  The SAVIN system uses the technology that powers NY-ALERT (www.nyalert.gov) to instantly send notifications of service to domestic violence victims 24 hours a day, seven days a week via text message, e-mail, automated phone call, or fax.

“The SAVIN system provides victims of domestic violence with important information they can use to protect themselves,” said Senator Fuschillo. “Notifying victims when orders of protection are served gives them more time to take steps to safeguard themselves and their loved ones from further harm. I encourage domestic violence victims to sign up for this important service.”

Domestic violence victims can register to receive SAVIN alerts by visiting www.nyalert.gov and clicking on the “Orders of Protection” box on the left menu. When registering with SAVIN, victims can also select additional individuals to be notified when orders of protection are served, such as advocates, attorneys, friends or family members. In order to register, victims will need a valid email address, along with the name of the Family Court that issued the order, the docket number, and the order of protection number, all of which can be found on the top section of the victim’s order of protection.  There is no charge to register or receive alerts.
