Senator Fuschillo Names Councilwoman Jacqueline Gordon of Copiague as a New York State Senate Woman of Distinction

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today named Copiague resident and Town of Babylon Councilwoman Jacqueline “Jackie” Gordon as a New York State Senate Woman of Distinction.

     “Whether it is serving our country in the armed forces, serving our community as a Town Councilwoman, or helping students in her career as a guidance counselor, Jackie Gordon has made serving others the primary focus of both her professional and personal life. She is a wonderful role model who has made a difference in the lives of many. It is my pleasure to select her for this well deserved honor,” said Senator Fuschillo.

     Jackie Gordon was born in Jamaica, West Indes and migrated to America with her family when she was seven years old. She grew up in Queens and graduated from the New York City public school system. She continued her education at Hunter College, earning a bachelor’s degree in health education and later earned a master’s degree in guidance and counseling and a Post Graduate Professional Diploma in Educational Leadership from Queens College.

     Councilwoman Gordon has proudly served in the United States Army Reserves for nearly 30 years. She currently holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and completed command of the 310th Military Police Battalion. Jackie served in four overseas deployments; Operation Desert Storm (Germany), the Global War on Terror (Guantanamo Bay and Iraq), and most recently in Afghanistan last year.

     Councilwoman Gordon serves her community as passionately, proudly, and effectively as she serves her country. She organizes the Town’s annual Wounded Warrior Ride, in which over 1,000 people ride through the Town in support of the Wounded Warrior Project. She serves as the Chair of the Town’s Veterans Advisory Committee, the Veterans Museum Project, and the Town’s Beautification Committee. She also organizes several blood drives a year at Town Hall to encourage town employees to help save lives by becoming a blood donor. Councilwoman Gordon is also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

     A strong supporter of children, Councilwoman Gordon is the former President of the Copiague Sports Booster Club and member of the PTA. She is also a former Girl Scout Leader and is currently on the board of the Girl Scouts of Suffolk County. Councilwoman Gordon currently works as a guidance counselor at Wilson Technical Center, helping teenagers and adults find the career path that fits their talents and interests.

     Councilwoman Gordon resides in Copiague with her two children, Kerrianne and Augustus.

     The Senate’s “Women of Distinction” program recognizes outstanding women living and working in New York State whose contributions have greatly enriched the quality of life in their communities and beyond. Councilwoman Gordon’s biography and photo were displayed in the Legislative Office Building as part of an exhibit honoring the Women of Distinction from across New York State.
