Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) and the New York Coalition for Transportation Safety recently sponsored a kids bike safety rodeo for families at Cedar Creek Park in Seaford.

“It’s important that children know how to be safe when riding their bikes, especially with the growing number of cars on the roads today,” said Senator Fuschillo, Chairman of the Senate’s Transportation Committee. “This program taught children safety tips to use while riding their bikes, as well as provided free equipment checks to make sure they are as safe as possible. I thank the New York Coalition for Transportation Safety for partnering with me to perform this important service.”

     The program provided children with:

     • Safety training on a bicycle obstacle course

     • Free bike, helmet, brake and tire safety checks

     • Information on New York state bicycle & helmet laws

     • Instructions on how to use hand signals

     • Instructions on sharing the road with cars and pedestrians.

Trained representatives from the New York Coalition for Transportation provided the safety training and conducted the bicycle obstacle course.
