With Veterans Day approaching, and with November being National Military Family Appreciation Month, Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) is reminding veterans and their families that New York State offers military awards to honor New Yorkers who have served in the armed forces.
“Every man and woman who served our country in the armed forces deserves our respect, gratitude, and appreciation, and these medals are one way New York State recognizes the service and sacrifices of its residents who fought for our country,” said Senator Fuschillo. “I invite veterans or their families to contact my office and learn more about obtaining these New York State military medals.”
New York State offers several military awards to veterans who currently live in New York State or who were New York State residents at the time of their military service, including:
• New York State Conspicuous Service Cross
• New York State Medal for Merit
• New York State Conspicuous Service Star
Eligibility for these awards is based on the applicant’s military service record. These medals can be awarded posthumously to the family of a deceased veteran.
Veterans or family members of veterans can obtain a complete list of eligibility criteria and applications for these awards by calling Senator Fuschillo’s office at 516-882-0630 or click here.
