Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently sponsored a beach cleanup day at Jones Beach State Park.
Senator Fuschillo’s beach cleanup program, which was sponsored in conjunction with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation, helped to keep the beaches and shores clean and prevent pollution from harming the ocean and marine life. Over 500 children, teenagers, and adults from across Long Island came to volunteer and helped remove approximately 1,500 pounds of trash, litter, and debris from the Jones Beach shoreline.
“Trash and litter is not just ugly and annoying; it is harmful for the environment and dangerous to wildlife. With the help of all the volunteers, we collected an enormous amount of garbage and helped ensure that one of the world’s most beautiful coastlines stays that way. I thank everyone who participated in this program for all their hard work” said Senator Fuschillo.
Jones Beach is one of the most widely utilized State Parks in New York. The Park has 6.5 miles of ocean front coastline and is made up of more than 2,400 acres of maritime environment. Between 6 and 8 million people visit the park each year, according to the State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation.
