Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently sponsored a free child safety seat check where parents could have their children’s car seats checked for proper installation. The program was held at John Burns Park in Massapequa Park.
Officials from the Nassau County Traffic Safety Board performed the free safety inspections and fixed any seats that were improperly installed. Parents were also informed of the steps they should take to make sure their child’s car seat is used properly in the future.
Properly installed car seats can reduce the threat of injury or death by as much as 65 percent, according to the Nassau County Traffic Safety Board. The Nassau County Traffic Safety Board also estimates that as many as 90 percent of car seats are improperly installed.
Residents who were unable to participate in the program but would like more information about where they can get their children’s car seats inspected should call Senator Fuschillo’s office at 516-882-0630.
