Students from Grand Avenue Middle School in the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District today donated over 1,300 cell phones they collected for Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr.’s “Cell Phones for Soldiers” program. Senator Fuschillo visited the school to personally pick up the cell phones and thank the students for their hard work.
“What the students at Grand Avenue Middle School did is amazing. The over 1,300 cell phones they collected will help connect soldiers serving overseas with their families back home. Many, many people will have smiles on their faces because of what these children did. They should be extremely proud of themselves,” said Senator Fuschillo (R-Merrick).
Senator Fuschillo’s “Cell Phones for Soldiers” program collects old, unwanted or broken cell phones to benefit American troops serving overseas. Each phone collected by the Grand Avenue students, along with the others collected through the program, will be sent to a cell phone recycling company which will make a donation to the “Cell Phones for Soldiers” program for each donated phone. The donations will be used to purchase calling cards for overseas soldiers to call their loved ones in the United States.
To date, Senator Fuschillo’s “Cell Phones for Soldiers” program has raised over 160,000 minutes of calling time for soldiers and their families.
