Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently joined with Amityville Village officials in unveiling a new state of the art police vehicle and announcing new state funding for the Amityville Police Department.
The new police vehicle will be primarily used to monitor and deal with crime, drug, and gang activity. Officers also use the car to respond to emergencies within the village. Senator Fuschillo secured $25,000 in state funding for the village to purchase the vehicle.
Senator Fuschillo also announced the he has secured an additional $50,000 for the Village of Amityville to purchase another new, marked police vehicle and provide training for officers on emergency preparedness and dealing with individuals with mental illnesses.
“Officers need proper training and equipment to perform their duties as effectively and professionally as possible. Using these funds, the Amityville Police Department will continue to modernize its fleet of police vehicles and provide enhanced training to its officers,” said Senator Fuschillo.
“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, the Police Department, and the Village of Amityville, we thank Senator Fuschillo and are extremely appreciative for his assistance in securing this funding for us. Senator Fuschillo is truly a good friend of the Village of Amityville and of our residents,” said Amityville Mayor James Wandell.
