Electeds: Continuous Care Is Needed for Brooklyn Until New Lich Operator Is Found

BROOKLYN – Today, Senator Daniel Squadron, Congressmember Nydia Velázquez, Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, Borough President Marty Markowitz, Assemblymember Joan Millman,  Council Members Brad Lander and Stephen Levin sent a letter to Governor Cuomo urging the Department of Health to reject The State University of New York’s closure plan for Long Island College Hospital,  immediately stop the closure of all departments, and require SUNY to continue operating the hospital until a new provider is identified.

 “We strongly urge DOH, under your leadership, to reject this closure plan,” wrote the elected officials. “SUNY must be required to continue delivering health care services at the hospital until an operator is found.”

“It is our understanding that SUNY Downstate has already directed a number of departments to stop serving patients even though DOH has not yet approved the closure plan. We urge DOH to require SUNY Downstate to immediately stop the closure of any departments at LICH.”
