NEW CITY, NY – Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) today visited Clarkstown High School North to present its Varsity football squad a set of brand new, state-of-the-art helmets designed to combat concussion-related injuries.
At the request of the Clarkstown Central School District, earlier this year, the Senator was able to allocate $60,000 in bullet aid to help fund equipment designed to protect student athletes.
At an outdoor morning ceremony on their football field, the Senator was joined by scores of parents, school administrators, and athletic staff to tout the latest addition to promote safety. In recent years, a slew of players have been injured on the football field, and this latest measure is designed to reduce the risk of head-to-head impact.
“Promoting safety on the field will ensure the protection of our student athletes for generations to come,” said Senator Carlucci. “This is a solid investment that will end up saving both money and resources in the future. While we encourage health competition, we also expect that our children will have the protective gear necessary to ensure their safety and well-being. I would like to thank Dr. Morton and the entire staff at Clarkstown Schools for making this one of their top priorities.”
“The health and safety of our students is our top priority,” said Dr. J. Thomas Morton, Superintendent of the Clarkstown Central School District. “ On behalf of the Board of Education and myself we wish to thank Senator Carlucci for his ongoing support of our students."
The ceremony concluded with the Varsity football Rams’ co-Captains presenting the Senator with his very own customized football uniform.
