NANUET – Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) yesterday visited Nanuet High School to greet with administrators, teachers, parents, and students to officially roll out its newest security system for the new school year. Known officially as “Fast Pass”, this technology-savvy computerized apparatus is enabled to cross check criminal, sex offender, and a school's own internal watch lists, giving employees added peace of mind and a new buffer of added protection. Used by hundreds of schools throughout the country, the security system works to process thousands of visitors, contractors, and vendors daily, making the job easier for school security personnel.
“You simply cannot put a price tag on safety,” said Senator Carlucci. “We live in a new day in age where we need the best security features at our disposal so that our children can learn in a safe and secure environment. I applaud the Nanuet School District for putting this money to good use and look forward to continuing our strong partnership on behalf of all its students.”
In last year’s state budget, Senator Carlucci was able to secure $20,000 in bullet aid, which the school district used to purchase the “Fast Pass” system for both its High School and Middle School.
Once a visitor is cleared, a photo badge is instantly printed, designating both the expiration and final destination of that individual through the school premises. The system generates an electronic audit trail of all activity that can be printed, emailed or stores and later retrieved for management or investigative reports. In addition, it is built in with capabilities that include automated alerts to be sent via e-mail or to a cell phone within seconds, full historical database of visitor information, and performs more comprehensive background checks.
Christine Camillieri, Vice President of the Nanuet Senior High School PTA Council, said: “As a parent of 3 children in this school district I appreciate that the Senator helped to secure the funds to put this new security system in place. There is nothing more important than the safety of our children and I’m sure this new security system will give parents some peace of mind as they send their kids off to school.”
Mark S. McNeill, Superintendent of Schools, said: “I know that Members of the Board of Education would like to be here at this moment to join in on thanking Senator Carlucci for his special assistance to improve the District’s building security. They held several Bard Meeting discussions since the tragedy in Newtown and Senator Carlucci’s special aid to purchase this state of the art Visitor Management System really opened up the door to looking for ways to increase students’ safety. Carlucci’s aid gave a jump start to our thinking about how we can make incremental changes that significantly increase student safety.”
Also in attendance for the afternoon ceremony included Nanuet School District Assistant Superintendent of Business Phil Sions, Director of Facilities Rudy Villanyi, Athletic Director Frank Mazzuca, and Andrew Moss, Senior Account Executive from A+ Technology and Security.
