Statement From Senate Republican Leader Dean Skelos
Dean G. Skelos
May 29, 2013
It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of former Senator Caesar Trunzo, who died last night at the age of 87.
“C”, as he was affectionately known by his friends and colleagues, represented Suffolk County in the State Senate for 36 years, from 1972 to 2008. He was a dedicated public servant who served with kindness and compassion.
Senator Trunzo was very proud of his many legislative accomplishments, particularly sponsoring the original bill to create the state’s income tax check-off to help fund breast cancer research, outreach, and education programs as well as many environmental laws to help protect Long Island’s groundwater, bays, and estuaries.
My thoughts and prayers go out to Caesar’s family, especially his children Laura and Michael.
I join everyone who served with him, and the thousands of people he served in the Senate, in honoring a great friend who will be fondly remembered and truly missed.
