Upcoming public meeting on Lake Ontario lake levels

If you are concerned about extremely low or high water levels in Lake Ontario, as I am, I urge you to attend a special upcoming public hearing where you can make your views known.

The International Joint Commission (IJC), which helps control the use of common waters shared between the United States and Canada, is soliciting public comment on a new proposed plan to regulate water levels in Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River Basin.  The IJC is hosting a public hearing from 6-9 PM on Sunday, July 14, in Lockport.  The meeting will be held at the Cornell Cooperative Extension 4-H Training Center, located at 4487 Lake Avenue (Route 78).  Registration begins at 5:30 PM.

I will be there as your representative, yet I encourage you to personally attend the meeting if this issue is important to you.  Extremely low or high water levels like we are experiencing now have a major impact on residential properties, marine businesses, the environment, and tourism.  We need to have our voice heard as plans are made for the future.
