Hispanic Heritage Month / Unidad Latina
Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month by celebrating the rich histories, cultures and contributions of our nation's Hispanic American citizens. The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15th and ending on October 15th.
This weekend, the State Senate helps mark the celebration by holding our 3rd Annual Unidad Latina conference in New York City. Unidad Latina brings together hundreds of community, business and government leaders at a two-day conference designed to strengthen partnerships and collaboration, and to increase economic opportunities for the growing Hispanic community in New York State.
