ALBANY, 12/11/13 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today announced that 47 job creation projects in the 51st senate district will receive critically important state funds totaling more than $14.8 million through the third round of Regional Economic Development Council awards.
“The Regional Economic Development Council approach, now in its third year, is one I have supported from its inception because it ensures that projects with local backing are given the extra boost they need to succeed,” said Senator Seward. “Today’s award winning projects will deliver jobs, enhance our quality of life, and provide new opportunities for growth here at home.”
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo said, "The Regional Councils were empowered to change the face of economic development in their communities and they have accomplished just that. This third round of awards continues the state’s commitment to these creative and groundbreaking plans and recognizes the immense progress that has already been made in revitalizing our economy and putting New Yorkers back to work.”
“I was extremely pleased to offer my support throughout the grant application process and congratulate the many award winners from the 51st senate district. The number and quality of winning projects demonstrates the hard work and attention that local leaders in business, education, economic development and government have poured into the process,” Senator Seward added.
Statewide a total of $715.9 million was awarded for 824 economic development projects in every region of New York State.
“Programs like the Regional Economic Development Council grants have helped reconstruct how we deliver state funding and generate economic growth. It is a winning approach that promotes our best and brightest and has reshaped the public perception of our state’s economic future,” Senator Seward concluded.
