ONEONTA, 11/12/13 – A portion of New York State Highway 23 in Delaware County will be renamed in honor of United States servicemen and women under legislation signed into law this week. The legislation (S.3765-A) was sponsored by Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) and pays specific tribute to members of VFW Post 487.
“Every man and woman who dons a United States military uniform sacrifices for our nation and our way of life,” said Senator Seward. “For those who made the ultimate sacrifice, trading their life for our freedoms, we cannot thank them enough; but we owe it to them to keep their memory alive.”
Anthony Moore with Davenport Memorial Post 487 contacted Senator Seward and requested that New York State Route 23, through the Town of Davenport, be renamed to serve as a memorial to recently deceased members who served in Korea and fought in World War II, as well as the many veterans residing in the Town of Davenport.
“There are many memorial parks, highways, and other landmarks dedicated to our veterans. I am extremely proud to add a portion of New York State Highway 23 in Delaware County to the list of highly-worthy designations, and look forward to seeing the new signs erected,” Seward added.
Senator Seward spent time at several Veterans Day events in recent days including stops in Delaware County at Margaretville Central School and Robinson Terrace in Stamford.
