Herkimer County HealthNet Receives Statewide Honor

ALBANY, 06/11/13 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today honored Herkimer County HealthNet during the Parks & Trails New York  annual award ceremony at the Capitol.  Herkimer County HealthNet received the Get Outdoors award for its commitment to developing and maintaining trails and playgrounds throughout the county.

“The caring individuals and member agencies that make up Herkimer County HealthNet are continually improving the health and well being of our community through a wide array of services,” said Senator Seward.  “The Creating Healthy Places program develops Herkimer County’s abundant natural resources and encourages physical fitness – a winning combination.”

In a year’s time Herkimer County HealthNet’s Creating Healthy Places to Live Work and Play program has helped implement 18 park and trail projects in school districts, villages and towns.  The program has also published guides to Herkimer County trails and physical activity options that are engaging life-long residents in new outdoor opportunities.

Senator Seward presented Herkimer County HealthNet Executive Director Adam Hutchinson, and Creating Healthy Places Grant Coordinator Alison Swartz with a special senate resolution.  The resolution was also adopted in the state assembly where it was sponsored by Assemblymen Marc Butler, Claudia Tenney, and Anthony Brindisi.
