ONEONTA, 05/29/13 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today announced his strong support for the proposed plans for Belleayre Resort at Catskill Park. Senator Seward says the planned resort will aid in long-term economic growth for the Catskill region.
“After meeting with local elected officials and hearing from area business owners and residents it is clear to me that the proposed Belleayre Resort at Catskill Park will be a positive development for our region,” said Senator Seward. “I look forward to working with the developers and other key collaborators to advance this plan and move forward in a timely fashion.”
In a letter to Regional Environmental Administrator Daniel Whitehead, Senator Seward writes:
“The benefits of expanding two resort locations with a spa and championship golf course are clear – job opportunities will be created, tourism will surge in the Catskills and long-term economic growth will be realized in a critical region of upstate New York.”
“The proposed Belleayre Resort has been under discussion for some time, rightfully so considering the scope and significance of the project. The blueprints have been modified on several occasions to account for thoughtful suggestions offered by local stakeholders.
“Overall, the proposed resort will help solidify the local tax base and grow the regional economy by making the most of our ever-present natural beauty and burgeoning tourism industry. The end result will be more opportunities year-round for recreation, and economic growth,” Seward concluded.
