James L. Seward

September 30, 2013

ONEONTA, 09/30/13 - State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I–Oneonta) will be in Onondaga County, Tuesday, October 1st at Syracuse City Hall.

Senator Seward will take part in a New York State Senate Education Committee hearing, “The Regents Reform Agenda: Assessing our Progress.” This is the second in a series of four hearings being convened by the committee under State Senator John J. Flanagan (R/C/I-East Northport), chairman.

The hearings present an opportunity to review reforms embarked upon in 2010 by the New York State Board of Regents. The hearings also focus on several major issues confronting educators including state assessments, the implementation of common core state standards and the protection of student privacy.

“New state assessments and common core standards have generated a great deal of discussion and concern among school administrators, teachers, and parents. It is vital that we review and evaluate the effectiveness of these new measuring sticks to determine if they are truly providing our students with the tools they need to succeed in the classroom and in life,” said Senator Seward.
