STAR Registration Fact Sheet

New legislation will require all homeowners receiving a Basic STAR exemption to register with the New York State Tax Department in order to receive STAR exemptions in 2014 and subsequent years. Registration will begin on August 19 and continue through December 31, 2013. The NYS Tax Department will mail instructions to all current Basic STAR recipients on how to register. Senior Citizens receiving the Enhanced STAR exemption are not affected by the new registration requirement. The mailing schedule for the 51st Senate District is:
- August 19-23: Cayuga, Chenango, Cortland, Tompkins;
- September 3-6: Delaware, Herkimer, Otsego, Schoharie;
- September 9-13: Ulster.
