Senator Klein Announces $25,000 Direct Aid Grant for Robotics Program at PS 71

BRONX, NY - Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) joined students, teachers and school administrators in announcing a $25,000 direct funding grant that has been used to fund a Robotics program for current fourth graders as part of an after school program. The announcement took place at the end of a Robotics session held at PS 71.

Senator Klein said: “I was pleased to announce a $25,000 grant that has gone directly to PS 71 to fund an innovative Robotics program. Programs like this help students develop in-demand STEM skills that are needed to be competitive in the global economy, while giving kids an interactive and fun way to learn after school. Seeing children so engaged in learning only reinforces my commitment to ensuring that our schools have the resources they need to deliver a first rate education to our students.”

The Robotics program is a program where students build and program interactive robots using NXT Lego sensors, motors and Mindstorms software. PS 71 is one of ten schools in Senator Klein’s district that has received direct grants. Senator Klein is planning to visit all ten schools receiving direct grants in the coming months.
