Senator Bonacic Announces “Edward S. Tucker Memorial Boulevard” Legislation Is Signed Into Law

“EDWARD S. TUCKER MEMORIAL BOULEVARD” LEGISLATION SIGNED INTO LAW

State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/C/I- Mt. Hope) is pleased to announce that Governor Cuomo signed into law a bill he sponsored to create the “Edward S. Tucker Memorial Boulevard.”  The legislation (S.5328) designates a portion of New York State Route 208 in the Town of Shawangunk, in Ulster County, as the “Edward S. Tucker Memorial Boulevard.

On May 22, 2007 Edward S. Tucker, a retired Town of Shawangunk police officer who, while employed as a school crossing guard, was tragically struck by a vehicle and killed at the intersection of New York State Route 208 and Robinson Avenue in the Town of Shawangunk. This legislation designates that stretch of State Route 208 in recognition of his service to the residents of the Town of Shawangunk as a police officer and his devotion to school children as a school crossing guard.

Town of Shawangunk Supervisor John Valk said, "Ed dedicated his whole life to the residents of the Town of Shawangunk as a police officer, school crossing guard and volunteer firefighter.  Naming the 'Edward S. Tucker Memorial Boulevard' in his memory is a fitting honor for all his years of giving back to his community."

Senator Bonacic said, “Edward Tucker is an example of service and dedication to his community.  He was tragically killed while keeping the school children of Shawangunk safe, and this dedication helps to honor, in some small way, his devotion to his community.”
