Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) recently joined with members of the Kings Park School District community to cut the ribbon on the new press box at the Kings Park High School football field. The new facility was funded through a state grant of $85,000 that Senator Flanagan helped secure.
The new press box will replace an older one which was accessible only by ladder and had been deemed unsafe for both students and faculty. To ensure safety and comfort, the new facility features a glass-enclosed broadcast booth that overlooks the playing field and a rooftop platform that enables safe filming of on-field activities.
The district made the decision to construct a new press box to help coaches better prepare their student-athletes for games and to assist students in their efforts to attract college attention. It will also serve as a very useful tool for students who aspire to be journalists by providing them with a safe platform to film and broadcast athletic contests.
Most importantly, it will enhance the experience of going to Kings Park High School events for the entire community.
“By making game-time a more enjoyable experience, this new press box can help bring more of the Kings Park community together to support their local athletes. It will also help to provide all of the students with a more memorable high school experience. I wish the athletes, students and families in Kings Park great success and fun in all their future sporting and recreational events,” stated Senator Flanagan.
"This new press box will help the entire school community come together and is a great addition to the school. Our entire school community is extremely grateful to Senator Flanagan for listening to our need for this new and safe facility for our students and staff and for working to secure the funding in order to protect our taxpayers,” stated Vice President of the Kings Park School Board Tom Locascio.
