“The Department of Education's unilateral decision to demolish the School of Cooperative Technical Education without adequate community input is troubling. We will not quietly accept demolition of this school without allowing the voices of those in the community who will be affected most by these changes to be heard. I have been, and will remain, an advocate for a robust public process. That is why I am sponsoring S5597/A7317 along with Assemblymember Linda B. Rosenthal, requiring public-private redevelopment of public lands to undergo review.
“We must work together in the fight to preserve and protect our educational system. I am proud to stand with Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer and my colleagues in government in a letter to the DOE demanding greater community engagement on the plan to redevelop the School of Cooperative Technical Education.”
