(Albany, NY) – Senator José M. Serrano served as moderator for a workshop at the SOMOS El Futuro Conference, sponsored by Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman. The event was designed to inform attendees about their rights regarding language access. With New York commonly known as a cultural melting pot, the workshop addressed efforts made by the Attorney General's Office to ensure equal access for minority language New Yorkers in election ballots, Police services, Sheriff's Offices, and written materials provided by pharmacies and schools.
"We must remain dedicated to educating our immigrant population on the rights and protections that are in place to ensure equal language access for all New Yorkers," said Senator Serrano. "Knowledge is power, and I'd like to thank the Attorney General for organizing this forum, which will arm immigrants and their families with their civil rights when it comes to obtaining information from a government agency."
The Workshop was co-sponsored by La Fuente, Inc.
