Senator Serrano Stands with Upper West Siders to Call for the Expansion of the West End-Collegiate Historic District

(City Hall) – State Senator José M. Serrano joined Senator Brad Hoylman and concerned citizens at City Hall to provide testimony in support of the proposed West End-Collegiate Historic District Extension. Stretching from West 70th Street to West 109th Street between Broadway and Riverside Drive, the extension to the existing West End-Collegiate Historic District would serve to protect centuries-old row houses that are a part of New York City’s majestic history. Senator Serrano spoke before the New York City Council’s Subcommittee on Landmarks, urging the committee to consider the historical and architectural integrity of the district, in a time where luxury high-rise buildings are becoming a regular occurrence.

“Throughout my career in public office I have fought to preserve and enhance the cultural and artistic significance of our great city,” said Senator Serrano. “The architectural wonders that we see in the buildings on the Upper West Side are part of our cultural fabric, and we owe it to the community, as well as future generations to preserve them,” continued Serrano.
