(Albany, NY) -Senator José M. Serrano reminds all New Yorkers that Monday, April 22nd is Earth Day and encourages everyone to make a commitment to protecting our planet, ensuring clean air, fresh water and a healthy Earth for many generations to come.

"Earth Day is a very special time for New Yorkers.  As we celebrate spring, we should also use this time as an opportunity to recommit ourselves to protecting our precious environment," said Senator Serrano.

"Nothing is more important than protecting the health of New Yorkers and the environment where we raise our families. Earth Day is a great way to focus awareness on sustainability issues in our community, which is crucial to creating and maintaining a cleaner, healthier New York," concluded Serrano.

Senator Serrano has been a long time advocate for environmental issues.  He is a major proponent of the annual Earth Hour initiative, and is a staunch and vocal opponent of the dangerous practice of hydrofracking . He is a supporter of major environmental legislation, and sits on the Senate's Committee for Environmental Conservation.

Even very small changes can make a big difference in the environmental footprint we leave.  Looking for additional ways to celebrate Earth Day? Visit http://www.earthdayny.org.
