(Bronx, NY) - For the sixth consecutive year, Senator José M. Serrano participated in "It's My Park Day," at Joyce Kilmer Park in the Bronx. "It's My Park Day" is a joint program hosted by City Parks Foundation and the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation. This fall, the Senator and his family joined local volunteers and environmental activists where they picked up garbage, dug soil, and planted bulbs.

"My family and I had a great time working with all the great local volunteers who helped beautify Joyce Kilmer Park during 'It's My Park Day," said Senator Serrano. "Our local parks enrich our lives in countless ways. We owe it to our community now and future generations to preserve and enhance our urban oases. Many thanks to the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation and Partnership for Parks. A very special thanks to all the hardworking young volunteers from Hostos Community College, who put in so much time and effort every year," concluded Serrano.

Senator Serrano has been a long time advocate for the preservation of parks and currently serves as the Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Cultural Affairs, Tourism, Parks and Recreation. Serrano also sits on the Committee for Environmental Conservation and was recently ranked one of the highest among his  State Senate colleagues on the annual EPL/Environmental Advocates Scorecard.
