Queens Lawmaker Will Serve as Ranking Democratic Member of Senate Committee on Racing, Gaming and Wagering

Queens, NY, February 12, 2013 -- New York State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. (D-Queens) today announced that his new committee assignments for the 2013-2014 state legislative session include his appointment as the ranking Democratic member of the Senate Standing Committee on Racing, Gaming and Wagering.  In addition, Addabbo will continue to serve as the leading Democratic member of the Senate Committee on Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs.

“With ongoing discussions about permitting full casino gaming in New York State, and with the Resorts World Racino operating in my district at Aqueduct Raceway, I am looking forward to fulfilling my new responsibilities as the ranking Democratic member of the Racing Committee,” said Addabbo, noting that he has been a member of the committee since being elected to the Senate.  “I am very concerned about the issue of full gaming in New York, which is set to go before the voters for their consideration this November as a constitutional amendment on the ballot.  In addition, I am hopeful that Resorts World will continue to live up to its potential as an economic engine and source of good jobs for my constituents.”

Addabbo said he is also very pleased to continue as the ranking Democratic member of the Senate Committee on Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs. “I take my responsibility to our state’s veterans very seriously and am committed to serving the needs of our former servicemen and servicewomen and their families,” he said. “They need jobs, health care and our gratitude and attention as brave men and women who have put their lives on the line for our freedom and safety.”

The Queens lawmaker will also serve on four other Senate Committees:  Aging, Civil Service and Pensions, Education, and Labor. “These committee assignments will provide me with the opportunity to continue advocating on behalf of our state’s seniors, our working families, our school children and our state’s entire educational system,” Addabbo said.  “I look forward to these challenges and making New York an even better place for all of my constituents to live, work, do business and raise their families.”

Earlier this year, Addabbo was appointed to serve as a member of the Senate Bipartisan Task   Force on Hurricane Sandy.
