SENATOR KATHLEEN MARCHIONE: COMPREHENSIVE MEDICAID AUDIT NECESSARY TO HELP PROTECT NEW YORK TAXPAYERS

Statement from New York State Senator Kathleen A. Marchione (R,C-Halfmoon)

“I strongly support an audit of New York’s Medicaid program to help protect taxpayers from the billions in annual waste, fraud and abuse that continues to plague the program.  Medicaid fraud misuses taxpayer dollars and drains the program of necessary financial resources.  Our State must do more – much more – to identify, prevent and prosecute any instances of waste, fraud and abuse within the Medicaid program, which is the nation’s most expensive.  The fact that New York spends more on Medicaid than Florida and Texas combined – even though those two states have millions more residents – clearly demonstrates that this program needs much greater legislative oversight and accountability.  A comprehensive Medicaid audit is imperative if we are going to reduce government spending and better protect County property taxpayers who already bear too much of Medicaid’s crushing cost.”
